Bible Strong-Refiners Fire, June 2019

For a silversmith to refine silver, gold and other precious metals, he must place the metal over a fire and let it get fiery hot. He must hold it in the flames in the middle of the fire where it is the hottest. This process burns away all the impurities. He must be in front of the fire the entire time the silver or other precious metal is being refined. He has to hold the metal in the fire and keep his eyes on it. If it stays in the fire too long it will be destroyed. The silversmith knows when it has been in the fire long enough, when it is fully refined, by looking at the precious metal and seeing his image in it.

Sometimes God holds us in the fire, even where it is the hottest.

Malachi 3:3 He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver…

God’s purpose in this is to change us to become more like Jesus. He has His eye on the clock and His hand on the thermostat so as not to destroy us. But refine us He will, because He loves us. He’s getting us ready for heaven.

The Lord expects us to live holy lives and often times that means we have to change our hearts, our ways, our thoughts and behavior. By placing us in the fire He is teaching us by every test, trial and struggle what we need to learn in order for us to yield to the Holy Spirit so we can be changed. If you choose not to be changed, you won’t be.

If you want to be close to God, you will go through the fire of trials, testing and refining.

Hebrews 12:29 Our God is a consuming fire.

Mark 9:49 For everyone will be seasoned with fire.

As Christians I believe we are either going through a fire with varying degrees of heat, on our way to one and don’t know it yet or have been in one and hope to have more success going through the next one.

Jeremiah 12:3 But You oh Lord know me; You have seen me and You have tested my heart toward You.

Psalm 7:9 For the righteous God tests the hearts and minds.

God is sovereign and in control. He either sent the fire or allowed it. We should not pretend to know God’s purposes for others who are in the fire. Don’t make a judgment about why others are in the fire, for God’s thoughts are above our thoughts and His way above our ways.

God will give you His grace to get through the fire. We are in His hands and He is trustworthy. Decide in your heart that no matter what the cost or how long you’re in the fiery trial, you want God to receive glory and praise. Ask Him to use the trial to bring you closer to Him.

Psalm 34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.

Ask Him what He wants to teach you as you are going through it and what if any action He wants you to take.

Psalm 32:8 I will instruct you and teach you the way you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.

The Lord will take us into the fire as a dull piece of metal and change us, making us shine after refinement. We are refined in the furnace of affliction to share also in His glory.

1 Peter 5:10 In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.

God allows Christians, unbelievers, natural disasters, suffering and Satan himself to test us. We must choose to react according to the way God’s Word tells us to, to pass the test or we react differently and fail the test.

If you are going through the fire, know the Lord is working on and in you. Yield to Him and learn what He is teaching you. If you don’t you will be going around the same mountain again until you get it right. He will bring another set of difficult circumstances in hopes we will react in the way His Word tells us to.

Job 23:10 But He knows the way that I take; when He has tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

Allow God to purify your heart. He will bless you.

James 1:12 Blessed is the man who endures trial for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life which God has promised to those who love Him.

Get it into your head that as a Christian fiery trials, testing and refining are a necessary part of the Christian life.  Don’t panic when they come, learn to expect them. God says I’m in control and I live in you. Refine means to purify, to strain, extract, clarify, fine, pour down, and purge. God is breaking off impurities in the refiner’s fire. God removes all that cannot go with you into the next season.

Isaiah 43:2 When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned.

Zechariah 13:9 I will bring that group through the fire and make them pure. I will refine them like silver and purify them like gold. They will call on my name, and I will answer them. I will say, these are my people, and they will say, The Lord is our God.

You must stand strong in your faith, no matter the circumstances. No matter the hurt, pain, grief or sorrow you feel, Jesus is there for you. He will never leave you and will walk through every circumstance with you. He will take you to the other side. You will be stronger for it. When we are weak, He is strong. Let Him take you through the fire and get you to the other side.

Romans 5:3-5 More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

1 Peter 5:10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

Romans 8:28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

When He sends or allows the fire of difficult circumstances remember He has His eye on the clock and His hand on the thermostat. He will not let you be destroyed. You will learn through suffering to obey Him.

When Jesus was on the earth, He went through more life tribulations than we ever will. Since Jesus learned obedience by the things He suffered, how much more do we need suffering in order to be made more like Him?

Hebrews 5:8 Even though Jesus was God’s Son, he learned obedience from the things He suffered.

In the furnace of affliction you will find me praising Jesus. There may be tears running down my face but I will praise Him and worship Him. I began this 4 years ago during a very difficult time in my life. I continue it to this day. It is a way of life for me especially in life’s troubles. It keeps my mind on the Lord and allows my faith to overcome the fear Satan wants me to feel instead. By God’s amazing Grace it helps me to get through the storms.

Peter said, the reward for rejoicing in sharing Christ’s sufferings is that God will reveal His glory to us. Glorify and praise Him in the fire.

Paul said:

Romans 8:18 The sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Give your circumstances and everyone involved to God and He will do His part to get you through. God knows everything about your circumstances. He just needs you to let go of them and give them to Him. He knows the best timing of when and how to get you through. He will do the right thing for everyone involved. Allow Psalm 37:5 to work on our behalf. Speak it as often as you need to.

Psalm 37:5 Commit your way to the Lord, trust in Him and He will act.

Let God’s will be done in you. Surrender your life to Jesus. Ask Him to fill you with His Spirit daily and invite Him to think through your mind, speak through your mouth and love through your heart. Believe that He will. Allow Him to purify your heart so you can be as gold and precious silver. Learn to live a holy life, set apart for our Lord and Savior our Master. Choose to be holy so you don’t sin against God, even if that means going in the refiner’s fire. We prove our love to Him through our obedience to Him regardless of the cost.

Exodus 20:20 Do not fear for God has come to test you and that His fear may be before you so that you may not sin.

Deuteronomy 13:3 For the Lord your God is testing you to know whether you love the Lord your God with all of your heart and with all of your soul.

John 14:15 If you love me keep my commandments.

God bless. Heal the brokenhearted, bind up all their wounds.
