The Message-Be Filled with Holy Spirit

January 2021

The Bible shows us we can live a godly life and enjoy small amounts of alcohol. If you choose not to drink at all, don’t condemn others that choose to drink. If Jesus approves of it, who are we to disapprove of it?

Don’t drink so much wine or alcohol that you lose control of yourself such as your thoughts, words and actions. The Bible tells us to drink wine to make us joyful and to help our health. Nowhere does the Bible tell us to get drunk with it because many evils lie along that path. It does tell us to be filled with Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit.

Proverbs 20:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is a brawler and whoever is led astray by it is not wise.

Ecclesiastes 9:7 Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for God has already approved what you do.

1 Timothy 5:23 No longer drink water exclusively, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments

The Lord warns us about the dangers of alcohol and drunkenness. Getting drunk causes you to lose control of yourself and do things, sinful things you wouldn’t do if you were sober.

Romans 13:13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. … Don’t participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or in quarreling and jealousy.

Galatians 5:19-21  Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions,  envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Peter 4:3 You have had enough in the past of the evil things that godless people enjoy—their immorality and lust, their feasting and drunkenness and wild parties, and their terrible worship of idols.

Instead of allowing excessive amounts of alcohol to influence and take over your life, allow Holy Spirit to be in control of you and your behavior. Drink of the water Jesus gives which is Holy Spirit. Be under His influence, allow Him to take over your life, not drunk with wine or some other alcohol.

John 4:14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.

Holy Spirit empowers us to tell others about Jesus, to share His Word and so much more. With Holy Spirit empowering us we are able to witness to others boldly and tell of all Jesus has done for us.

With Holy Spirit in control, you will be in control of your thinking, behavior, your words and what you allow to come out of your mouth because Holy Spirit is influencing your life.

You can push Holy Spirit to the corner of your life or allow Him to take your life and be in charge of you by leading, guiding, teaching you about all things Jesus. Holy Spirit controls us rather than ourselves or sin controlling us. We learn to walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh. He teaches us how to make good decisions using Jesus as our example. He is teaching us to be more like Jesus every day. Christ begins to take over. Praise God. Christ is in you, alive in you through Holy Spirit if you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

If you have not accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior, Holy Spirit isn’t in you. He isn’t leading, guiding, teaching and touching you. You are walking in the flesh and not in the Spirit. Christ is not alive in you. You can remedy this by repenting of your sins and accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Ask Him to come into your heart and honestly repent of your sins. Holy Spirit will enter you and begin a good work in you if you allow Him to. Ask Him to lead and guide you daily, to teach and touch you and help you to become more like Jesus.

Being filled with Holy Spirit daily, empowers us to live the Christian life in this sin filled world. It allows us to have the joy, peace, love and power we need because it comes from within us through Holy Spirit. These are the fruit of the Spirit, He grows inside us. Ask the Lord to fill you up daily of Holy Spirit.

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

God bless. Heal the brokenhearted, bind up all their wounds.
