The Message-Drowning Man October, 2018

There are many unbelievers who don’t think they need our Lord and Savior Jesus. They are prideful in their sins. They say: Yes we know what sinners we are. We have rebelled and denied the Lord. We turned our backs on God. We planned our deceitful lies, were prideful and arrogant, betrayed, deceived and slandered others who were innocent and murdered and stole.

I read a story about a drowning man. It goes like this: A man was drowning and a swimmer swam near him to rescue him. He was flailing and swinging his arms wildly. The swimmer let him go under. He came back up and continued to swing his arms wildly. The swimmer let him go under a second time. When he came back up, he then saved the man. When asked why he let the man go under twice, he stated the man was too strong for me to rescue him at first. While he was strong, he would have pulled me down with him. So, I let him go under so I could rescue him.

Some unbelievers will have to go down a second time or more before they realize they need Jesus to save them. Some will have to fall and not be able to get back up on their own. Some will lose loved ones, marriages, finances or health before they realize they can’t make it on their own. The lower you are, lying before Christ’s cross, the surer you will be that you need Jesus to be your Lord and Savior. As long as you still think your way is better than God’s way, that you can do it all on your own, He can’t help you. You have to surrender to Him.

The Lord said: I was ready to respond, but no one asked for help. I was ready to be found, but no one was looking for Me. I said here I am, here I am, to people that did not call My Name. All day long I open my arms to a rebellious people, but they follow their evil paths, and their own crooked schemes. You deliberately sinned before My very eyes and chose to do what you know I despise. The people do not listen and Satan has struck them, but they paid no attention to God. They are crushed but they refuse to be corrected. They refuse to repent. Their rebellion is great and their sins are many.

Sometimes God brings rebellious people to the end of themselves, by allowing them to experience their own brokenness, and their own inability to make their lives work. He humbles them. This is what allows them to cry out to God for mercy. Then you are able to consider Jesus’ love and forgiveness.

The Lord knows the storm is coming and He places you in its path. He allowed the storm for you to receive something as you go through it. He does not intend for you to go under and not be rescued. This isn’t to destroy you. He will show you things in the storm He wants you to learn that you could never learn any other way. He will bring you out of it. Ask Him to.

Don’t refuse to allow Jesus to rescue you. He’s holding out His hand to you. Lift your hand like a drowning man and allow Jesus to save you. He offers forgiveness of sins and eternal life. He is our Savior, Redeemer and Deliverer. He will bless those with humble and contrite hearts, who tremble at His Word with many good things. But those who choose their own way and delight in sin, will not be blessed. Turn to Jesus and away from sin. Let the Holy Spirit change your hearts.

1 Peter 5:6 Humble yourselves, therefore under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

Isaiah 57:15 …I dwell on a high and holy place and also with the contrite and lowly of spirit in order to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.

God Bless. Heal the broken-hearted, bind up all their wounds.
