Bible Strong-Endurance, July 2021

Endurance is the ability to withstand hardship or adversity. Especially the ability to sustain a prolonged stressful effort or activity. The ability to endure the suffering of many hardships.

It is a key part of our spiritual strength and most of us struggle in this area. God’s Word provides us with much guidance to build endurance to work through the trials we face as we follow Jesus.

The Bible tells us we must possess endurance if we are to win in the Christian life. I can tell you right now, apart from the Lord I have no endurance. It isn’t easy living the Christian life and running this race, which is a marathon not a sprint or dash. He has spent time on me in this area. I look back and see how far the Lord has brought me. It wasn’t easy, in fact it was quite difficult and painful. It took a lot of time, going through trials and difficult circumstances. Through all of this, He has taught me to keep my eyes on Him and the prize that awaits me in heaven. He has taught me to endure.

James 1:12 Blessed is the one who perseveres (endures) under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

There are many obstacles along the way of life that you must go over or around. We must have victory over the obstacles we face. It may be fatigue, disappointment, the death of loved ones or discouragement creeping in. We must have endurance over whatever our circumstances around or inside of us are. We must run the race, never stop, never give up. It is only through the grace of God that we can get to the finish line victorious.

Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

Embrace Jesus as your example of faith and endurance. He endured rejection, shame, death on the cross. It was a criminal’s death without dignity, public and painful. Jesus endured because He knew the purpose of the cross and the glory and joy that would come afterwards. We must remember what comes after this life (heaven and eternal life) and keep on enduring.

Hebrews 12:2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

There are others in the Bible who had endurance and great faith such as: Moses, Abraham, Jacob, Noah and many more. They also are good examples of endurance and great faith.

We all begin this race at different levels as Christians, as runners in a race do. But one thing is for sure. It isn’t how you start the race, it’s how you finish it. Remember that only the ones who finish the race can receive a reward, whether it’s the Christian life or running in a marathon. I plan to finish strong, through the Lord Jesus Christ who is my strength.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.  For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.  So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

We must lay aside everything that keeps us from a relationship with God. Remove every hindrance from your life that keeps you from being closer to God. The things that are distracting you whether friends, social media, TV, sports, hobbies etc. must be put in their proper place behind God. Anything that produces a conflict with following Jesus should be abandoned. Remove those things that keep you from doing your best to God. Let go of everything that you know displeases God, even if it isn’t a sin. Christians are called upon to make sacrifices in the Name of Jesus. You can do this by God’s grace and power.

1 Corinthians 9-11 We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way; bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience…..

Any sin in your life must be dealt with. If Holy Spirit has convicted you of a sin, you must get rid of it. You must repent and turn from it. You have power through Holy Spirit to lay it aside. Your relationship with God is more important than to continue that sin. Fix your eyes upon Jesus.

As I draw nearer to that finish line, it is important I focus on Jesus. The world has gotten darker and darker. Things going on in the world are bad and will only get worse. I don’t know when my finish line is, but Jesus knows.  My eternal perspective is to look upon Him, listen and obey His instructions and follow His directions as I trust Him. That is my focus as I run the rest of this race. When I get tired and disappointed, I will remember Jesus and all He has done for me and all of us. He went to the cross and endured because He looked ahead and saw the prize God had for Him, when He reached the finish line.

Hebrew 12:3 Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.

Follow the example of Jesus who has gone ahead of us. He is preparing a place for those who love Him. A crown of righteousness awaits all who finish this race, loving Jesus.

2 Timothy 4:7-8 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.

God bless. Heal the brokenhearted, bind up all their wounds.
