Fighting Goliath1 Samuel 17 Some of Jesse’s sons were with King Saul for the fight. David the youngest was tending sheep for his father. His father sent him to his brothers to take them food at the camp where they were with Saul.

David heard Goliath challenge the men. David told King Saul he could take Goliath that he had killed a lion, and then a bear while tending the sheep, and the Lord had delivered him. He said the Lord will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.

Saul told David go, and the Lord be with thee. David took his 5 smooth stones to fight the giant with. No armor, no spear. Just his slingshot, and 5 smooth stones.

David ran toward Goliath, and said, you come to me with sword and a spear, and shield, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Hosts, the God of the armies of Israel whom thou hast defied. This day the Lord will deliver thee into mine hand, and I will smite thee. David did kill the giant Goliath that day. All who saw it knew it was the Lord that had delivered David.

We all have giants in our lives. Our own Goliath’s to deal with. It could be anger, bad choices, jealousy, pride, arrogance, bad relationships, feeling sorry for yourself.

Maybe you have more than one. Take them one at a time, and ask God to help you deal with it. Make progress then ask God to help you with another one. Just make progress.

Take authority over your life. Maybe your Goliath is a broken heart that has been hurting you for a long time, maybe years. You must ask God to help you deal with it. One thing is for sure, you will not be able to hold onto that hurt anymore. To make it better you have to let it go. You can’t keep carrying things around. If you do, you will not get better. Do your part, and God will do His. He will strengthen you to be able to let it go.

Perhaps you have an anger or bitterness issue, jealousy. As a Christian, with God’s help you can get rid of the Goliath’s in your life. One at a time. David first killed the lion then the bear and then the giant Goliath. See how he conquered them one at a time. He started with a small thing, and ended up with the biggest thing. If you will do what you can do, God will help you. You, and God are a team. You have to do your part. When God shows you something you must do it. Maybe you need to forgive someone. In order to continue progressing, you must do that, and then you can move forward. You must be obedient.

I prayed a prayer two days in a row that Joyce Meyer had in one of her books. It was about wanting God’s will to operate fully in my life. The first morning I prayed it, and by the afternoon the Lord had shown me scripture, of specific things I need to do. It convicted me. The next morning I prayed the same prayer, and that morning the Lord gave me a different scripture of specific things I need to do. Both times it was about my mouth, pride, and about being arrogant. I have learned that when God shows me something I need to work on, I do it. I take it to heart, and am convicted to do whatever he tells me to do, and quickly. I am His child, He disciplines me. I know I need it. If I want to be all I can be for the Kingdom I must obey. It isn’t easy to hear sometimes, but I am grateful God loves me, and wants me to be more like Jesus.

When David ran towards Goliath, he didn’t run away from the problem but towards it. He didn’t do it in his own strength, but rather in the name of the Lord. Adopt an attitude that you will stop running from your problems, and face them with God’s help. Stop blaming others, and making excuses. Ask God to show you what you need to do, and do it in Jesus name. You are a Goliath slayer, a giant slayer. You can do this.

Over time you will improve. Trust God, and do your part. Whatever the issue, look it up in the Bible, and read every scripture on the subject. You need to pray. Make your mind up you won’t stay angry, that you will not keep hurting on the inside from something that happened to you, maybe years ago. Don’t give up on your future over something that is done, and over with. You can never go back, and change it. Declare you will be healed from wounds, and bruises. Jesus came to heal the broken hearted, and bind up all your wounds.

Confront your issues, take authority over them with the Lords help. If you are a Christian, Christ lives in you. You can run from your problems, and issues, but they are still inside you. They are in your soul, your mind, and emotions. They are in the way you talk, and act. You must confront your Goliath’s. God will enable you to face your Goliath’s if you will ask Him to help you. Don’t give up, press forward in Jesus name.

God Bless. Heal the broken-hearted, bind up all their wounds.
