Shout It Out – Five Heavenly Crowns

September 2018

I am writing about the Heavenly Crowns because my grandson Jaden asked me something about them, but I didn’t know the answer. Therefore, I had to research the subject and I offer this to him and to all of you reading this, in hopes it helps each of us to better understand the Heavenly Crowns.

We know we aren’t going to get to heaven by doing good works but only through the blood of Jesus will we ever get there. No amount of good works will get you into heaven, without you accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

As Christians we help others, share God’s Word, and tell others about Jesus in hopes of them turning away from their sins and to Jesus. We are doing these kinds of things because Jesus expects us to follow His example. These types of things are what Jesus did when He was on the earth. We don’t do them to get rewards or crowns. However, I certainly won’t turn away from a reward or crown if the Lord wants to bless me with one. God’s Word gives us exciting promises and rewards for those who walk in His way and are obedient.

The five Crowns:

The Crown of Life is given to those who have stood firm during temptations and endure trials without giving up. It is for those who refuse to allow Satan to use those temptations and trials of life for his purposes, which is to get us away from God.

James 1:12 Blessed is the man who remains and endures trials, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.

This crown is for those who endure sufferings, who bravely confront persecution for Jesus, even to the point of death.

Revelation 2:10 Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days. You will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.

The Imperishable/Incorruptible Crown is granted to those who have a passion to walk obediently before God. This requires us to place God’s will above our will. We must die to our flesh, be disciplined, deny ourselves, endure and follow the Holy Spirit’s guidance, even in our struggles and trials. We must exercise self-control in the things we say and do. Faithful endurance is what we need now.

1 Corinthians 9: 24-27 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable crown. Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air; but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.

The Crown of Righteousness is given to those who look and long for His appearing and who live righteously through Him.

2 Timothy 4: 6-8 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.

The Crown of Glory is received by those who share His Word with others. We are to feed them with His Word.

1 Peter 5:2-4  Feed the flock of God which is among you watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.

This crown is for the servants spreading the gospel to all who will have ears to hear. It’s for the Peters’, Paul’s and John’s who went into all the world telling the world about Jesus.

This crown is for you sharing God’s Word in songs or on the internet, at school or work. Wherever you are share God’s Word. Tell everyone who will listen about Jesus.

Mark 16:15 Jesus said: He said to them, Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.

Now that I know there is a Crown of Glory I’m going to fight for this crown, by remaining strong in faith and sharing God’s Word no matter what Satan throws in my way. No matter my circumstances, good or bad, I will guard this crown. My heart swells to know this great reward may be awaiting me in heaven. Praise Jesus.

Scripture shows us a picture of what the elders are doing with their crowns. Everyone who has a crown will be doing the same thing.

Revelation 4:10-11 The twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever and cast their crowns before the throne, saying: You are worthy Oh Lord To receive glory and honor and power; For you created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created.

That’s the future of a follower of Jesus who obeys and follows in the footsteps of Jesus as their example.

The Crown of Rejoicing is for those who witness and help lead others to Jesus. This crown is also known as the soul winner’s crown. When you help someone to be led to the Lord, God is using you as His vessel. He sees who is willing and has a desire to be used by Him, to witness to others. It’s about witnessing not about how many actually get saved. We are to water and He gives the increase. He will place opportunities in your path if you allow Him to. Maybe a friend, co-worker or loved one.

Leading someone to receive Jesus as their Savior is very rewarding just knowing you had a hand in it. These people make up the crown of rejoicing or soul winner’s crown. People we influence for Christ are our joy and crown. Paul had joy and hope in those he had won to Christ in Phillippi.

1 Thessalonians 2:19 After all, what gives us hope and joy, and what will be our proud reward and crown as we stand before our Lord Jesus when he returns? It is you!

Philippians 4:1 Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.

In closing, some people will have more than one type of crown in heaven. The crowns are rewards and honors that God gives to those who truly serve, obey and love Him. These rewards are because of their faithfulness, love and commitment while on the earth.

The crowns are not about salvation which is a gift to all who call upon His Name Jesus. The crowns are about how we have chosen to live our lives with our feet in the dirt of the earth and our eyes on Jesus and heaven, as we long for eternal life with Jesus.

Store up treasures in heaven while on the earth by serving Him obediently and humbly. Service done with the right motivation blesses us now on earth and in heaven. I am anxious to lay any crown I might receive at Jesus’ feet.

Matthew 6:19-20 Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

Matthew 16:27 For the Son of Man will come in His Father’s glory with His angels and then He will repay each one according to what he has done.

We owe it to Jesus to accomplish everything we can for His glory while on this earth. Believers are incredibly blessed to enter into heaven and the very likeness of Christ Himself, because of what Jesus has done for us.

Romans 8:18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Philippians 3:20 Through our enduring the discouragements, persecutions, sufferings, or even death, we know assuredly our reward is with Christ in eternity.

God Bless. Heal the brokenhearted, bind up all their wounds.
