Shout It Out-God’s Holy Spirit, April 2019

God gives His Holy Spirit to those who accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. The Spirit provides the intimate connection between God and His children. From within He leads, guides and influences us. Before Jesus ascended to heaven He promised He would not leave us alone, but that God would send His Holy Spirit and He would be our Helper.

John 16:7 But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.

John 14:26 However, the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything. He will remind you of everything that I have ever told …

The goal of the Holy Spirit’s work is to make us more like Christ.

Romans 8:28-29 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.

The Holy Spirit has many roles in our Christian lives. He is known in the Bible by many names and titles. Not only as Helper, but Teacher, Counselor, Advocate, Spirit of Truth, Comforter and others. He gives Christians power over sin, power to live a fruitful life and power for ministry.

John 14:16-17 I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.

He is the author of Scripture. The Bible is God-breathed by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit empowered the authors of all 66 books of the Bible to write what He breathed into their hearts and minds.

2 Peter 1:21 For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

2 Timothy 3-16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

The Holy Spirit guided the authors of the Bible to record the truth and He also promises to guide believers to know and understand that truth. He enables Christians to understand God’s thoughts and ways.

John 16:13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

Those who do not belong to Christ do not have the Holy Spirit to guide them to understand God’s Word, because it is spiritually discerned.

1 Corinthians 2:14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.

He convicts us of our sin by convicting our hearts and minds. He empowers us to know that we are not worthy to stand before our Holy God in our own righteousness because it is as filthy rags. We need His righteousness.

John 16:8-11 Jesus said: And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment. The world’s sin is that it refuses to believe in me.  Righteousness is available because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more. Judgment will come because the ruler of this world has already been judged.

God places His seal on His children when they accept Jesus. It is a down payment on our heavenly inheritance which Jesus promised and secured for us at the cross. This seal assures us of our salvation in Christ Jesus. No one can break the seal of God.

2 Corinthians 1:22 He set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

Ephesians 1:13-14 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,  who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

The Holy Spirit intercedes on behalf of those He inhabits. We often don’t know what or how to pray for ourselves, so He intercedes and prays for us. He uses wordless groans. When we are beaten down by the trials and storms of this world, He comes alongside to help us as He sustains us.

Romans 8:26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.

The Holy Spirit gives us special abilities individually, known as spiritual gifts. Only the Holy Spirit distributes all these gifts. He decides which gift or gifts you receive.

1 Corinthians 12:4-11 There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.

Though there is a conflict between fleshly desires and the Spirit, you can please God by yielding and obeying the Spirit’s guidance.

Acts 5:32 And we are witnesses of these things and so is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.

There is much more about the Holy Spirit to be learned. Please read about Him in your Bible. Google Scriptures on Holy Spirit and it will give you the places in Scripture for you to read. He wants to have a relationship with you. Talk to Him throughout your day. Ask Him to help you with small and big things. Include Him in everything in your life. Ask Him for eyes to see and ears to hear clearly in Jesus Name.

Lord, I pray you will empower me to be obedient to Your Word. Father anoint my ears so I can hear You clearly. I want to do Your will, not mine. I don’t want to do anything without Your blessing and approval. I will yield to the Holy Spirit today Lord, I will be obedient. Help me to grow in the Fruit of the Spirit, so I can be more like Jesus. Help me to keep pride and arrogance out of my heart. I want to be kind, loving and forgiving like Jesus is. Help me to stay humble and to praise Your Holy Name in such a manner others will want to know You. Empower me to praise You even in the storms of life, when all things are going against me. I will keep my eyes on Jesus, even in the valley of sorrow and pain. In Jesus Precious Name. Amen.

God bless. Heal the brokenhearted, bind up all their wounds.
