Rant for Jesus-Guard Your Heart, September 2019

Your heart is the GPS of your life. It leads you in your decision making process. It determines the course of your life. We must stay aligned with God by guarding our hearts. Our motivations come from the heart. We have thoughts about what is in our hearts, we speak what is in our hearts and then we act on what is in our hearts. Guard your heart at all times, everything you do in life flows from your heart.

Some of us have bad things in our hearts such as greed, pride, arrogance, lust, jealousy, anger and bitterness. We do not want those things of the heart leading our decision making process. They open up the door for sin and Satan.

What you allow to stay in your heart guides whether you choose right or wrong, good or bad, and righteousness or wickedness. Wickedness and bad choices lead to sin and destruction.  Being aligned with God’s will allows you to choose the good and righteous way. There is nothing wrong, bad or wicked in God’s will. That goes against everything He is.

Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

The heart is full of emotion. It can be joyful, troubled, broken, pierced, and grieved. When Jesus was describing the Kingdom of God, Jesus said that what comes out of the heart defiles a man.

Matthew 15:16-20 Jesus said, Are you still lacking in understanding also? Do you not understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the stomach and is eliminated? But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart and those defile the man. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness and slanders. These are the things which defile the man…

Jesus also taught whatever you treasure most, your heart will be all in it.

Luke 12:34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

To stay in God’s will we must read His Word. That is where we find out what God’s will is. Once we know His will it is our responsibility as Christians to do His will in our lives. We need to carry God’s Word around with us all the time in our hearts. Memorize some favorite scriptures that can help you get through your days and nights. Speak them often during your day. You are connecting with God when you do.

Psalm 119:11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

When the Lord sees you, He is not looking at your outward appearance but rather He looks at your heart. He knows what is motivating you in your speech and behavior by what’s in your heart. You can’t hide anything from Him. If you have motivations other than righteous ones, He knows. That is why He sometimes doesn’t give you what you want when you pray for it. He knows what motivated the desire for it. If the motivation is bad, evil, selfish etc. He probably isn’t going to let you have it.

1 Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said to Samuel, Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.

Our hearts are so special. God created them to be. In our heart is where we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior and follow Him on that narrow road. Won’t you open up your heart to our Savior Jesus and let Him save, rescue and deliver you? All He wants is our hearts.

Romans 10:9 If you declare with your mouth, Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Lord Jesus, You have my heart. You are my greatest treasure. Lord search my heart and remove any pride, arrogance, selfishness, wickedness, anger, bitterness, lust, jealousy or envy from me. I don’t want any part of those. I know you despise those things and they have no part in my heart and Christian life. I cannot live a holy life with those things in my heart. Please help me with them. Remove them Lord and purify my heart so I have the right motivations that place me in Your will. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen.

God bless. Heal the brokenhearted, bind up all their wounds.
