The Message-Jesus Suffered and We Must Also

May 2017

In the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus had asked the Father to take the bitter cup away, to stop the anguish. He prayed that God would keep Him from going through the suffering. He prayed for a way to escape the torment. God said no. God didn’t take it away. God said no each time He asked. He didn’t stop the pain, the agony, the torment. Jesus had to go through it. God was using what was meant for evil, for our good.

Matthew 26:39 He went on a little farther and bowed with his face to the ground, praying. My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done not mine.

Matthew 26:42 Then Jesus left them a second time and prayed. My Father if this cup cannot be taken away unless I drink it, your will be done.

Hebrews 2:18 Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested.

Jesus as a man experienced the same temptations and sufferings that we do. God allowed Jesus to suffer so we could have forgiveness of sins and eternal life. God allowed Jesus to be tempted so He could be our example of how to live a Christian life.

When my son Zack was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer, I spent time on my knees. I laid in the floor and cried out to God for mercy, to make it stop, to change it, to take it away, to heal Zack. I begged Him to stop the pain, the agony. God did help Zack with the pain, thank You Jesus, but he didn’t take away the torment, the agony that was to come.

What do you do when He won’t stop it; won’t change it; when He says no? You know you don’t have any strength left, that you can’t take it anymore. You know you have hit rock bottom. That is what God is waiting on. For you to run out of your strength and turn to Him for His. When yours runs out, His Grace is there for you and it is sufficient each morning.

Satan wanted us to give up, to doubt our faith, to turn away from God. Although it was difficult every morning no matter how bad things were, how hopeless things appeared I began thanking God for His Grace each morning. When the waves of panic would hit me I would say I trust You Lord, Your will be done not mine. It was hard for me to say those words.

When you wake up, things may look bad to you, even hopeless, but thank Him and let Him know His Grace is enough for you to get through the day, no matter what comes at you. Through His strength you will make it through the days to come.

Some of you are or have been in torment for so long that you have used up all of your strength. You don’t think you can take anymore, but by the Grace of God He will lift you up with His strength not yours, if you will ask Him to help you. You may have ran out of strength a long time ago, but you are still here. You may be at the breaking point, running on empty, but He isn’t. You must ask Him for help. God never runs out of strength, love, mercy and grace. Through the Holy Spirit there is power and all the strength you need. Not your strength but God’s.

You wouldn’t ever need God’s strength, unless you ran out of your own. If you could do everything on your own, you wouldn’t cry out to God for help. You would continue your life without needing God’s help, without crying out to Him.

He uses tragedy, suffering, trials and difficult times to make you see you need Him. He goes through it with you but, you must go through it to get to the other side. One song says, you must go through the valleys to stand upon the mountain of God.

There are many trials and tests in life that you cannot overcome in your own strength and be victorious. You must get through them in His strength.

When you are weak He is strong. When you are tired, frustrated, tormented, remind yourself that you are the righteousness of God through Jesus Christ. Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. No weapon formed against you shall prosper. Nothing can separate you from your God. You can do all things through Him who strengthens you. Walk by faith believing it. The more you speak His Word, the more God takes over in your life. Just when Satan thought he had you, you can escape him with God’s strength.

God will not move all the obstacles, trials, devils out of your path. He didn’t for Jesus. As we experience them, God is using them to change us to be more like Jesus. By going through the tests, trials and storms of life we are growing, we will increase our patience, our faith, endurance and our character will grow, and we will be able to fight and resist Satan more. Praise God. Even the attacks from Satan work together for good, for you.

Romans 8:28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

The “everything” written in the scripture above, includes both good and bad things. God uses struggles, heartbreaks and tragedies in ways that will bring about His Glory and our good. These events, even though we don’t understand the reason for them, are part of His perfect plan.

1 Peter 5:8-11 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him and be strong in your faith. Remember that your Christian brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same kind of suffering you are. In his kindness God called you to share in His eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support and strengthen you and He will place you on a firm foundation. All power to Him forever! Amen.

Hebrews 4:15 This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same tests we do, yet he did not sin.

In times of doubt and discouragement and loss, believers need to call on the Lord, and talk to Him.  Ask for guidance. Ask Him to strengthen you with His strength. We must trust God and know that God acts (sovereignly) in complete authority, in all that comes to pass, so that everything might work toward His purpose.

Jesus made His mind up to suffer for us so that we may have eternal life with Him. He carried the sins of the world on the cross. He had to endure and win the conflict with the powers of darkness. He selflessly chose to do it. He saved man at all costs to Himself.

The enemy will try to get you to do the same things you used to do.  Some of which got you in this trouble you are now in. If you have already accepted Jesus as your Savior you do not have the same desires as you used to. You won’t get pleasure out of the things you used to do because your heart and nature have been changed.

Your heart is no longer filled with rebellion, lies, and dishonor but rather love, joy, peace, morality etc. You have God’s heart in you. You are the righteousness of God through Jesus Christ. You have honor and integrity because Christ is in you.

You have a new heart, and you must renew your mind with the Word of God. The Bible is a book of life, the mind of God. When you put the Word inside you, it renews your mind, and changes your perspective. It will tell you how to treat others, how to behave, how to talk, and what to do in different circumstances.

If you live your life by the words in the Bible you won’t be walking on the wide road towards hell. Satan will still come after you, and tempt you. Satan hates you. He wants to destroy you and everyone around you. The narrow road will be your choice, your path. Praise Jesus.

Get the Word inside you so you can become strong enough to resist temptation. You need spiritual strength to fight Satan. Everyone is tempted, but not all who are tempted yield.

Now you have Jesus to help you and strengthen you, you will be strong enough not to yield to temptation and to resist sin.

Isaiah 41:10 Fear thou not for I am with thee, be not dismayed for I am thy God, I will strengthen thee yea, I will help thee, yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

I know there are some who are betting against you. There are some who said you would never get up. They say you have no future, you will never amount to anything. The Lord sent me here to tell you, the devil is a liar. He is the Father of lies, there is no truth in him. Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.

As long as people are doing Satan’s work by throwing dirt on you and you accept it in your mind, they will bury you with it. But if you will call on the Name of Jesus, that dirt won’t touch you. The moment you feel the dirt thrown on you, speak the Name of Jesus. God will raise you up and the dirt will not stick to you.

It doesn’t matter what kind of beginning you had, but it matters where you finish. The enemy wants you to focus on your past sins and mistakes. God wants you to focus on Him. The enemy wants you anxious, fearful, distracted, stressed out, discouraged, but the Lord will renew your mind if you will read His Word. Remember you are the righteousness of God through Jesus Christ.

Others may have already dug a grave for you to crawl into, but God’s about to turn your life around. He is about to lift you up out of your darkness, your pit, with His righteous right hand. He’s going to pull you out of the abyss and plant you firmly on solid ground, in Jesus Name. You can come out victorious, by the renewing of your mind.

You may be broken, bruised, alone, but with God’s help you can turn your life around. Let Him help you get back on your feet. Ask Him to be your Lord and Savior, your solid ground.

The devil tried to destroy you, he tried to kill you. He tried to drive you crazy with worry and fear. He left you here down and out, crushed with no hope. Let Jesus lift you back up, give you your joy and fight back. Get your fight back and fight that devil. He’s a murder, a liar. Nothing he tells you is true, or good for you to hear. Never dwell on it, never speak it, and never act on anything he tells you. Instead magnify Jesus, lift His Name on high, and praise His Holy Name.

Our thinking must be changed from old ungodly ways of thinking into new godly ways of thinking, therefore changing our mind set and behavior. What we know in our minds, forms a conviction in our hearts. That conviction in our hearts, turns into actions we take, and words we speak.

The only way to replace what Satan has put into our minds, is with God’s truth which is His Word, the Bible. This renewing of the mind comes as believers study God’s Word. It gets in your mind and heart. It changes the way you think, how you respond to others and how you speak and act.

Jesus is the only one who can calm every thought, every storm, and fear. Jesus is your Strength your Shield, and He will never fail you.

Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil, and to bring abundant life. Jesus, and Satan couldn’t have a more different purpose.

1 John 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Joshua 24:15 says, choose this day who you will serve.

I will serve the Lord. I am going to follow Him all of my days. How about you?

God bless. Heal the brokenhearted, bind up all their wounds.
