Bible Strong-Our Life is Ticking Away

February 2021

In the Bible, the Lord tells us all our days are already numbered. We don’t know how much time each of us has. For some it is but a very short time, others a short time, average life spans, while some live long lives. God has given each of us a birth date and a death date and there is nothing you can do about that. It is up to the Lord to determine. He has written our time down before we were born.

Psalm 139:16 Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written the days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them.

God has assigned a certain amount of time for each of us to live and it is tick tick ticking away. Time is a limited resource, therefore very valuable because it is our earthly life. How we spend this time on earth, determines how we will spend our future eternity. Our spirits will live somewhere for eternity. As we go through life, often times we don’t think on this very much and we waste our time. I’m as guilty as anyone.

I have lived 71 years on this earth. Only a few of them were spent loving and following Jesus. 14 of them. I wasted so much time. That may explain why I am so grateful for the Lord not giving up on me. He surely could have. Oh His Grace is wonderful.

King Solomon understood how important it is to make God central in our life before it is too late, as he wrote in Ecclesiastes.

Ecclesiastes 12:1 Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come and the years draw near when you will say, I have no delight in them.

At your appointed time, your body will return to dust and your spirit will be taken into the Presence of God.

Ecclesiastes 12:7 the dust will return to the earth as it was and the spirit will return to God who gave it.

We will all stand before God whether we rejected or accepted Him. That is why it is so important that we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. We need His Salvation, forgiveness of sins and eternal life. We need Him to get through this life on earth, no matter how long or short it is.

Hebrews 9:27 It is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment.

2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

Jeremiah 17:10 I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind,

Even to give to each man according to his ways, According to the results of his deeds.

He is going to reward His believers on how they spent their limited time on earth after they received Salvation through Him. Did we use that time on ourselves or did we invest that time on eternal things? He will know the answer.

Matthew 16:27 For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and will then repay every man according to his deeds.

Revelation 22:12 Behold, I am coming quickly, and my reward is with me, to render to every man according to what he has done.

Our time on earth is but a blip compared to eternity. That is why it is so precious. As Christians we have been asked by God to spread the Word about Jesus and Salvation, forgiveness of sins and eternal life. He has commissioned us to do that. To be commissioned means to be sent out to fulfill a particular purpose. It is based on a mandate and instructions to fulfill a purpose.

The disciples began their missionary work spreading the good news about Jesus and obeying Him. Christians are also called to spread the good news about Jesus. There are many ways to do this. Maybe it is sharing God’s Word on social media, maybe by teaching or ministry, or by living the Christian life as an example to others. We are Christ’s Ambassadors. He uses us to get to others. There are a thousand different ways to serve our Lord. Find one that fits for you.

Let us invest what time we have left in the great commission from God?

John 20:21 So Jesus said to them again, Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.

1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.

Have you received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? He came and died on a cross so you can have forgiveness of sins. He died for you and me. He thought we were worth saving. He paid the price for us. He freely gave His life so you could be with Him in relationship on earth and in heaven. He’s waiting for you to come to Him. Won’t you? You will never regret it.

God bless. Heal the brokenhearted, bind up all their wounds.
