The Message-Spiritual Warfare, October 2019

As Christians, we are in a spiritual battle of different levels of intensity for an ongoing basis. There is an invisible army warring against us, using different maneuvers against us.

Paul tells us in Ephesians that we are at war. He states there is opposition in the invisible realm, the heavenly places.

Ephesians 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

Spiritual warfare’s goal is Satan’s attempt to deceive and turn us away from God. There are many ways to deceive people. To deceive someone means you are tricking them by telling lies instead of truth. Satan is the Father of lies and deception.

Revelation 12:9 And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world, who was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

1 John 5:19 We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.

The enemy wants nothing more than to fill our minds with lies, defeat and discouragement. As a believer you will experience attacks. God tells us in His Word to be aware of Satan’s schemes, to remain alert and always stay close to Him. He is our Shield and Defense in our time of trouble.

John 16:33 I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

1 Corinthians 16:33 Be on the alert. Stand firm in the faith. Be men of courage. Be strong.

Psalm 18:2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Spiritual warfare manifested in the physical form: These attacks hit you suddenly and seem to come out of nowhere. It’s one thing after another, like being hammered with bad, evil thoughts or circumstances. Over and over bad things are happening or your mind is being attacked again and again. You can’t control the circumstances that are coming against you. Your world may seem to be spinning out of control.

Satan’s goal is to lead you away from God. Satan is a thief, a liar and murderer, a roaring lion that preys on God’s people. His desire is to silence our voices so we won’t tell others about Jesus and all the good He has done for us and will do for them if they will accept Him as Lord and Savior. If he can cause so much damage to us that we are weakened and tired he may be able to get us away from Jesus. That’s why Spiritual warfare is like a hammering over and over again. It weakens our minds, then our bodies grow weak and that is when we are more likely to fall into Satan’s hands. He will place temptation after temptation of various kinds in front of you to try and get you to sin.

Satan tried this on Jesus right after He was baptized. (Matthew 4:1-11) The Holy Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness to be tempted by Satan. Jesus was fasting for many days and was very hungry. He was physically weakened and tired. That was the very time Satan tempted Him and even quoted scripture. All he wanted was one slip up by Jesus to say yes to sin. But Jesus stood strong and resisted his attacks, every single one as He spoke the truth. He spoke God’s word out loud and didn’t fall for Satan’s lies and attacks.

Spiritual warfare attacks aren’t your normal day to day struggles. It is ruthless and unrelenting (that hammering). You may feel very alone, fearful and in despair. Satan’s voice is condemning and he places fear and doubt in our minds. The attacks may overwhelm you. When you recognize these symptoms know it is darkness sent by Satan.

When, not if, you sense strong attacks and find you are pulling away from the Lord and His truth and ways, you will know who is behind it. Be alert. Read and speak God’s Word. Don’t give into Satan’s schemes. There is hope in Jesus Christ. He is the One who can rescue us from the darkness, calm our minds and give us strength.

Our weapon is the double edged sword, the Word of God. It equips us against Satan’s lies and deception and allows us to stand against the enemy’s lies. Speaking God’s Word out loud to Satan is a powerful weapon against the forces of evil. It is truth going into enemy territory. It focuses our minds back on God and away from Satan’s attacks. Through the reading of God’s Word, we will be strengthened and gain wisdom and discernment through the Holy Spirit to stay strong in the battle.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Every believer has God’s Holy Spirit dwelling inside them, alive and working within us. The Holy Spirit intercedes for us. We are never left alone to fend for ourselves in this wicked world. He is always fighting for us, even when we can’t see it. Trust Him and just know He is.

Romans 8:26 The Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

God tells us in His Word not to go into the day without being prepared and equipped for battle. He says to take up the full armor of God so you can stand against the enemy’s schemes. Each piece of the armor has a specific purpose and is for our protection. We must be like soldiers and not go into battle unprepared. Be fully ready for when the attacks come your way.

Ephesians 6:11-17 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.  In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.  Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Praise is also a powerful weapon and invites God’s Presence. He is close to us when we praise Him. It makes the enemy flee, therefore blocking enemy attacks.

Satan and his demons will not hang around when we are praising God who fights our battles for us. Remember Satan was also an angel in heaven who used to praise God. Based on Bible verses, some believe he was the angel in heaven in charge of praise.

The Bible tells us God defeated Jehoshaphat’s enemies because of the people’s obedience to praise Him.

2 Chronicles 20:22 As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated.

When we are praising our focus shifts from our difficulties and bad circumstances to the One who loves us, Jesus.

Psalm 22:3 He inhabits the praises of his people.

The book of Job is a great example of Spiritual warfare manifested in the physical form. He was a man of the Old Testament who lived on the earth. God saw Job as a righteous man, but Satan wanted to prove God wrong. God allowed Satan to attack Job over and over, but not to kill him. He suffered great loss and grief in this Spiritual warfare. He never turned from God. His faith was strong. He stood firm. I hope you will read the book of Job to see the warfare Satan put him through. I pray we never have to experience warfare like Job did. It was devastating.

Jesus knows the battles we will face because we belong to Him. The world and Satan hates us for following Jesus. We are not called to be worldly allowing our fleshly desires that go against God, to override what God’s Word tells us. We are sent into the world to tell others about Jesus, share His Word and to help others like Jesus did. We must be transformed and always crucifying our fleshly natural desires that go against God’s way. We must live Godly lives because He is holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come. When we mess up we must ask for forgiveness.

For Satan: Satan you have tempted me, tried putting words in my mouth, and accused me. You will not succeed. I refuse to listen to you. Nothing you do, will keep me from my purpose. The Lord anointed me to help heal the brokenhearted, and bind up all their wounds, through the teaching of Jesus Christ, and that is exactly what I am going to do.

I will remain in the will of God. I do remain surrendered to the Holy Spirit. You will not intimidate me. You will not mock me. You will not scare me. Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world.

I am resolute, I know my purpose. I will work on the plan God has given me, while I am on this earth. Before I followed Jesus, you came for me. Time and time again, you tried to destroy me, even kill me. But when you came to get me, when you wouldn’t give up, God sent His Spirit, and I opened up my heart to Jesus. Oh glorious day.

John 10:10 The thief comes to kill, steal and to destroy. I am come that they may have life, and have it more abundantly.

I place my foot on your neck, and your demons tremble. When I say God’s name, you all tremble. Praise God. I am prepared for battle. I shake my fist at all the wicked ones, the evil ones, I spit in your eye and defy you. I hold my shield of faith and sword of the Spirit, and charge against you. I am God’s warrior, wearing His armor. The breath of God will destroy you.

I will follow Jesus all the days of my life. No devil, demon, deceiver, accuser, liar, or murderer will stop me. I will praise Jesus regardless of my circumstances. I do it because I want to praise Jesus, but I also do it so you and your demons will cringe and shake. Crawl back into your dark holes.

God’s coming for you. He will snuff you out.

You better run Satan, God has me.

God bless. Heal the brokenhearted, bind up all their wounds.
