Bible Strong-Spiritual Warfare

Based on Jeremiah Study Bible/Ephesians

Christians are engaged in a very real spiritual battle between two opposing kingdoms. In the beginning of my ministry to Tutwiler Prison for Women Satan attacked my mind and when that didn’t work he attacked my body on more than one occasion. His goal was for me to fail and not go and teach those women about Jesus and forgiveness of sins. With the help of God, he didn’t get his way. I am in my third year of ministering to the women of Tutwiler Prison. We have to be alert. Those least in the know are often the first casualties.

In Ephesians it tells us how to defend ourselves.

Jesus equips us with spiritual armor. He is our truth, our righteousness, our peace, the object of our faith, the source of our Salvation and the living Word of God. When we put on Jesus Christ we are protected by the only person Satan has never defeated.

Using the armor of a soldier, Paul describes how the Christian can stand strong in the midst of this ever present unseen spiritual battle.

The belt of truth: The soldier’s belt serves as the foundation of his armor, holding his sword and his breastplate. Satan is the father of lies and cannot stand against the truth and Jesus is the Truth. Victory in spiritual warfare starts with truth.

The breastplate of righteousness: The breastplate guarded the heart, the very source of life. Righteousness protects the spiritual life of the believer. Our righteousness comes from Christ and not of ourselves.

Feet protected by the gospel of peace: The soldier’s heavy armored sandals gave him traction and security in the heat of the battle. Our peace with God through Jesus Christ gives us security in the face of Satan’s accusations.

The shield of faith: The soldier’s shield could be soaked in water to put out the flaming arrows of the enemy. Faith in God’s promises deflects and extinguishes the lies of Satan.

The helmet of salvation: The armored helmet protected the soldier’s brain. The primary battlefield in spiritual warfare is the Christian’s mind. Assurance of salvation defeats the doubts Satan uses to attack us.

The sword of the Spirit, the Word of God: In Ephesians the soldier only has one offensive weapon and that is his sword. For the Christian, the sword is the Word of God.

Jesus has already won the battle against Satan. However, as long as we are on the earth we have to fight against Satan using God’s power and wearing the Armor of God.

Satan wants to rule the whole world. Jesus has other plans. Because of Jesus and the cross we don’t have to live in fear of Satan. We do need to fight against Satan when we are in a spiritual battle. We need to be armed with the truth that the victory against Satan has already been achieved, and that we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. No weapon formed against us shall prosper. Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. Praise Jesus.

Ephesians 6:10-13 Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day and having done all to stand.

Ephesians 6:14-18 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace, above all taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit…

God bless. Heal the broken-hearted, bind up all their wounds.
