Shout It Out-Sword of the Spirit, May 2020

Swords are used to protect oneself against the enemy or to attack the enemy. God calls His Word, the Sword of the Spirit. Every Christian needs to know how to use this Sword against the wickedness of this world and against strongholds, Satan tries to create in our minds. The Word of God is from Holy Spirit. It is God breathed.

2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is God breathed, inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.

God’s Word is the Sword of the Spirit, because Holy Spirit revealed the mind of God into the hearts and minds of chosen Holy men, to write it down. He had them to think and write down what He willed them to write, as they were moved by Him. It is so effective, it is what is used against the powers of darkness and all the evil and wickedness.

The phrase Sword of the Spirit is found in Ephesians 6:17. Paul refers to it as a piece of spiritual armor Christians are to use. Using God’s Word against the enemy allows us to stand our ground against and fight against Satan.

Ephesians 6:17 And put on the helmet of salvation and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

God’s Word is described as active, sharper than a double edged sword. A sword made with a double edge made it easier to penetrate as well as to cut. The Word of God reaches or penetrates the heart and identifies the motives and feelings of those it touches.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

During the battle of Armageddon, His Word tells us Christ will slay His enemies with a sword that comes from His mouth. This is a symbolic reference as Christ refers to His Word, using it as a sword. The weapon our Lord and Savior will use is the Word of God itself. The results of using His Word is literally the same as using a sword.

Revelation 1:16 He held seven stars in his right hand, and a sharp two-edged sword came from his mouth. And his face was like the sun in all its brilliance.

Revelation 2:16 Repent of your sin, or I will come to you suddenly and fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

Revelation 19:15 From his mouth came a sharp sword to strike down the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod. He will release the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty, like juice flowing from a winepress.

Revelation 19:21 Their entire army was killed by the sharp sword that came from the mouth of the one riding the white horse. And the vultures all gorged themselves on the dead bodies.

The Word of God is sharp and powerful enough to kill the enemy, literally tearing them to pieces.

Revelation 19:17-18 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun and he cried out in a loud voice to all the birds flying overhead, Come gather together for the great supper of God, so that you may eat the flesh of kings and commanders and mighty men, the flesh of horses and riders, of all men slave and free, small and great.

When Jesus comes back to earth in the second coming, He will be riding on a white horse followed by the Armies of Heaven. On His thigh will be written, Lord of Lord and King of Kings for all to see. A sword (Word of God) shall come from His mouth and with it He will destroy His enemies, all of those who chose not to accept and follow Him. Every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. He will walk up to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem that is so debated and argued about still today. There He will put His Throne and of His Kingdom there will be no end.

Revelation 19:15-16 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

We must daily put on the full armor of God to fight against Satan and his demons. This world is full of wickedness and evil and we need every advantage. We are in spiritual battles. Wearing the full armor of God allows us to stand against the devil, against principalities, powers and rulers of the darkness.

Ephesians 6:10-17 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

This sword is for each of you followers of Christ. It is for the young and the old. Never let this sword go. It is for all time. Nowhere in His Word does it say to lay down your Sword. No, it says take the Sword of the Spirit. So Christian we must pick it up and never lay it down, to the end. Take the Sword and grip it in faith and believing. Carry the Sword of the Spirit in one hand and the Shield of Faith in the other.

Holy Spirit says, here take the Sword of the Spirit and use it against your enemies and the wickedness of Satan. Speak it, wield it and nothing can stand against you. It is the only weapon needed. Watch what the Lord accomplishes when you use the Sword of the Spirit.

When Lord Jesus was tempted by Satan after He was baptized, He could have chosen many weapons to fight against Satan. Jesus chose the Sword of the Spirit. He kept telling Satan it is written and quoted Scripture, it is written, and it is written. So much so, Satan began to say, it is written, however when Satan spoke Scripture he didn’t say it correctly. He is such a deceiver. The Sword of the Spirit pierced Satan and he then left Jesus alone in the desert.

If you have never read your Bible from front to finish, I ask you to consider doing so with the help of Holy Spirit, who will teach you all things. Use the understanding and knowledge you gain, in your daily life. There is always a need for the Sword of the Spirit in our own hearts and lives, work places, homes and relationships.

With the infallible Word of God you can withstand temptations and trials. Use this weapon to withstand hurt, pain, rejection, betrayal, sickness, loss of loved ones, whatever is thrown your way. The Sword of the Spirit fits every hand, small or large, educated or not. Pick it up today and carry it with you all of your days. Speak, obey, live and share God’s Word.

God bless. Heal the brokenhearted, bind up all their wounds.
