The Message-The Test of Knowing Him

September 2020

 Ask yourself:

Is who and what you believe in, based on the Bible?

Do your beliefs line up with the Word of God or the world?

Daily, do you strive to live by God’s commands and not the world’s belief system?

Have you forgiven those who have hurt you? As a Christian do you love them regardless, even from a distance?

Are you becoming an overcomer as you steadily grow and walk with the Lord?

Have you been avoiding sin or continuing your sin knowing it is wrong? Do you consider it acceptable even though the Lord does not?

1 John 5:18-21 We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him. We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.  And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.  Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

1 John 5:2-5 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world, our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

Those who say they know Jesus as their Savior and do not strive to obey His commandments, are not truthful to themselves or others.

1 John 2:3-6 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.

Everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.

1 John 2:29 If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.

Some claim to be Christians and are steadily clinging to what the world offers them instead of living for the Lord and obeying His commands. Worldly pleasures and ways do not please God. He is a jealous God and wants you to be His, not the worlds.

1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

Our Savior Lord Jesus, came to this earth to take away our sins, to destroy the works of the devil. If we call ourselves Christians and continue sinning over and over after asking for forgiveness, maybe one should examine themselves and make sure Jesus is your Lord and Savior. You can’t serve two masters. Either you serve Satan or Jesus. There is no middle ground.

1 John 3:4-6 Who ever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.

1 John 3:8-9 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.

It is very difficult at first, to love someone who has hurt you badly. Maybe they are your Judas who betrayed you, or someone who used you. Some try to keep you down and out, even destroy you. It is only with the Lord’s help that you can overcome these experiences and forgive and love them as a Christian, even if from a distance. Pray for the Lord to bless them. Your burden will immediately begin to lift. Each time you pray for them your burden lifts and soon is gone.

Jesus is all about love (just look at the cross) and He expects His followers to follow His example. He forgives us even when we mess up badly and shows us mercy. He loves us regardless of how badly we fail Him. We belong to Him and must show others forgiveness and love just as Jesus shows it to us. We are all undeserving. It is only by His love and grace (undeserved favor) that we are forgiven.

1 John 4:7-11 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.  In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

1 John 4:12-16 No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us.  By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.

3 John 11 Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, but he who does evil has not seen God.

God bless. Heal the brokenhearted, bind up all their wounds.
