Bible Strong-Work Out Your Salvation, March 2020

You must work out your own salvation. No one can do it for you. Only you are accountable to God for your words and actions and whether you have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior or not. You may have the desire to do what is right but you do not have the ability to carry it out without Holy Spirit living inside of you. Only those who have accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord have Holy Spirit living inside them.

If you are not compelled to grow in the Lord, and do His will not yours, if you do not have that desire to not want to sin against Him, you may need to examine whether or not you truly know the Lord as Savior or that He knows you.

2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves. Surely you know that Jesus Christ is among you; if not, you have failed the test of genuine faith.

At age 13, I was in a bad thunderstorm and was fearful for my life. I made the statement that I was going to go to church and accept Jesus the next day. The next day, I said the words that I accepted Jesus as my Savior and was then baptized. I went to church and sang the songs. Went on a Christian retreat even. Outwardly sitting in the church, I looked like the rest of them.

I considered myself saved, but I wasn’t. My life didn’t change after I said the words. I continued on as usual and gradually sinned more and more. I didn’t feel convicted or feel bad about sinning. I could sin and go to church on Sunday and still sing the songs and continue to sin come Monday, if not before. Today I know, I could sin so easily and not feel any conviction of my wrong doing because Holy Spirit wasn’t living in me. If you don’t have Christ on the inside of you, in your heart, it counts for nothing.

Yes, I said the words, out of fear of a storm the previous day and emotion, not out of love and wanting Jesus in my heart. I quit going to church for about 35 years and yes I sinned up a storm during that time.

I knew I needed Jesus along the way. I knew through all the years of sin, rebellion and suffering the consequences of them, that I needed a Savior.

At the age of 57 I finally asked Jesus to come inside my heart and save me, to change me. Glory to God, He did. He had given me many chances during those 35 years but my hard heart said no. I am so grateful He didn’t give up on me. I thank Him over and over for that.

Revelations 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.

It is only when Holy Spirit has come to live inside you that He convicts you and brings to your conscious when you sin. When He lives inside of you, sinning is the last thing you want to be doing. The sinful desires you used to have are no longer there. They have been replaced by Jesus.

I hate my sin and the sin of others. When He convicts you of sin, you are sorrowful and you repent. I can’t repent fast enough now. Now, I am quickly convicted by Holy Spirit. You want to do God’s will not your own. You want to walk in the Spirit not in your flesh.

Galations 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

As Christians we are supposed to act the way God wants us to act and we cannot do that if we aren’t truly saved and have Holy Spirit leading and guiding, teaching and touching us.

Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart. Try me and know my thoughts. And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Holy Spirit changes us. He gives us a desire to live holy lives, because God is holy. He wants to separate us from the things of this world which are sinful. He places desires inside of us to want to serve Jesus and to want to become more like Him. As we listen and obey our behavior and actions begin to change, so much so that others can see us as a Christian. Not because we said the words, but because of our changed actions and behavior. You can live out the new life Jesus died to give you. An abundant life here on earth.

Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

I have a concern that many think they are saved and are not. Maybe they said the words they accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior when they were young or just at an emotional moment. I ask you to consider whether you have a relationship with Jesus, or whether Holy Spirit lives inside of you, leading and guiding you, convicting you of your sins or not.

If you are able to sin and not feel badly about it, aren’t convicted of it, have no problem doing it over and over, chances are you may not know Christ and He may not know you. I implore you to work out your salvation with the Lord.

Matthew 7:21-23 Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?  And then will I declare to them, I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.

Psalm 26:2 Prove me, O Lord, and try me; test my heart and my mind.

Don’t wait until it is too late. With all your heart, ask Jesus to come into your heart to be your Lord and Savior. Ask Him to change you to become more like Jesus. Read His Word so you will know His will and what He expects of you. Don’t just read it but take it to heart, live it, speak it and share it. Let His Word change you on the inside. His Word will transform you.

James 1:22-24 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

I recently read a statement that said: If you are born once, you will die twice; if you are born twice, you will die once. I pray all of you reading this will not experience that second death that Scripture calls the lake of fire.

If you are unsure if you are saved or not, ask Him to come into your heart and follow Him the rest of your days. Declare it: I will follow You Jesus all the days of my life.

Let us tell others about Jesus so they can turn from their sins and turn to Jesus. Then they will not be separated from God and their saved loved ones forever and won’t have to see the flames coming at them, feel the heat and hear the cries of the lost souls in hell.

I pray all of you reading this will not experience that second death that Scripture calls the lake of fire.

If you are not sure about your salvation, sincerely ask Him into your heart. Allow Him to change and transform you by yielding to His will not your own. Surrender your life to Him.

God bless. Heal the brokenhearted, bind up all their wounds.
